In 2021, Dr Robert Harland, Urbanism lead at Loughborough University’s built environment beacon, was invited by the United Kingdom National Commission for UNESCO to chair and co-organise the ‘Inclusive and Sustainable Cities’ session at the Heritage and Our Sustainable Future: Research, Practice, Policy, and Impact 2021 UNESCO conference. His close links to the City of Leicester planning department provided one of the case study discussions about the changing dynamics and economic circumstances of this multicultural city. This online conference attracted over 1000 international delegates.
